THE TAIL OF THE MIDGARD SERPENT AWAKENS IN BLÅVAND

Deep beneath the coast of Blåvand, something ancient lies sleeping. Something that should never awaken.

This summer, Enigmarium opens the doors to THE WONDROUS MACHINE: The Tail of the Midgard Serpent — an epic escape adventure inspired by Norse mythology, mysterious inventions, and the legendary Midgard Serpent, Jörmungandr.

The story begins in the 1920s, when Danish inventor Dr. Alois Underlind made a terrifying discovery beneath the sands of Blåvand: the tail of the Midgard Serpent, the enormous creature from Norse mythology said to encircle the world itself. Whenever the serpent stirs, the sea rises, the earth trembles, and nature falls out of balance.

To protect the world, Underlind constructed the Wondrous Machine — a complex mechanical device designed to stabilize the vibrations and keep the serpent asleep. But the machine was far too dangerous to fall into the wrong hands. He hid his laboratory behind mechanical trials, strange inventions, and intricate puzzles that only the most cooperative teams could overcome. Shortly afterward, he disappeared without a trace.

Now, the same mysterious vibrations have begun returning to Blåvand.

Players are sent back in time into Underlind’s abandoned laboratory, where they must restart the machine before the Midgard Serpent awakens.

But local fishermen still claim that on quiet nights, strange vibrations can be heard beneath the sea. Others believe the laboratory was never truly abandoned.

Unlike traditional escape rooms focused only on locks and codes, The Wondrous Machine combines immersive scenography, mechanical systems, teamwork, custom-built effects, sound, lighting, and cinematic storytelling into an intense adventure through the world of Norse mythology.

The experience has been specially designed for Denmark, blending Enigmarium’s award-winning creative design with local legends, natural forces, and the raw atmosphere of the Danish west coast.

One thing is certain:

Some forces should never be awakened.
